I’ve never had a garden before. We’re planning a raised bed for the spring. All these options are overwhelming! Where should we start? What plants (and seed companies) are good for beginners?

A good resource is your local ag extension agent. Are you here near Huntington? If so, perhaps I can hook you up with one of the farmers.

Most of the typical produce, such as tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, onions, carrots, green beans, and a variety of greens. We’re going to add sweet corn this year since we have a new property with lots of room. We’ll also add several melon varieties and four fruit and nut trees. It’s going to be a busy spring!

Let’s hope the rain comes for most of us in the Midwest. If not, the looming food crisis may come sooner than some think.
