Lucky Us

August 24, 2012

Yesterday I spent over four hours with Paul and LeAnne Fuhrman visiting them on their home farm and nearby orchard. I went from there to my son’s cross country meet so will be editing the photos from the farm and posting a bit later today.

Here is a teaser to whet your appetite. This corn is part of the section that will be harvested and brought to the Wild Ramp Market next week I believe.  When I compare it with images from the Midwest cornfields, I know even though this summer has been drier for us than usual, we have still received “enough” rain in most areas. Remember to count your blessings.

I keep recommending your blog to others using my heritage cooking blog. I even put up a recent post on buying local at your farmers market (with pictures!) It may not drive anyone directly to the Wild Ramp but it might awaken folks to the advantages of farmers markets in general.

The drought here in Croatia is bad, we have lost far too many crops this year. When will the rain come again…

It’s quite normal for us to go a month or more during the summer without any rain, but then we make up for it come winter. It’s really sad and pretty alarming to see what’s happening to much of the rest of the country. Good that your area isn’t as extreme as some.
